1934 - 1942
Rods of the 5th Era are easy to identify due to a significant change in reel seat design from slide-band to locking screw reel seats. The first rods in the 5th Era had “Pat Pend.” markings until 1938 when the patent was issued. Available grades listed in the 1934 Catalog and 1937 Catalog were: Premier, DeLuxe, Favorite, Special and newly added Victory and Champion grades.
Later in the 5th era, the reel seats show the patent number and, more importantly, introduced a new top-of-the-line grade—The Granger Registered. The Registered as well as the Aristocrat first appeared in the 1939 Catalog.
